T-Bar Electric COPALUM Certified

"Millions of structures at risk"
Many homes and structures built in the 1960s and 1970s were wired with aluminum. Due to an increased risk of fire, the United Stated Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recommending either replacing the aluminum wire with copper or installing COPALUM connectors.

T-Bar Electric (tbarelectric.com) is a certified TYCO COPALUM installer. T-Bar Electric is the region's most experienced aluminum wire hazard, replacement and mitigation, specialist.

Installation of COPALUM connectors is the most cost efficient method - approved by the CPSC - for alleviating the fire hazards caused by aluminum wiring. T-Bar specialists use COPALUM connectors to crimp (or cold weld) copper wires to the existing aluminum wires; achieving a permanent bond, which alleviates dangerous electrical arcing at receptacles, switches, lights, fans, appliance connections, junction boxes.

T-Bar technicians install COPALUM connectors at each outlet where aluminum wire is present. Our service includes replacing all receptacles, switches, and covers with new devices and covers.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission projects that homes wired with aluminum are 55 times more likely to have connections reach "Fire Hazard Conditions."

T-Bar Electric technicians are licensed, experienced, and certified to work on aluminum wire mitigation using methods outlined by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Why aluminum wiring is dangerous:
EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION
Aluminum wire expands and contracts causing connections to loosen and compromise. This can start a fire, melt and burn away insulation, or lead to a short, which can arc. Electrical arcs reach temperatures higher than 10,0000 Fahrenheit.
OXIDATION
Aluminum oxidizes. Oxidized aluminum wire is a poor conductor, which results in connection shorts, overheating heating and compounded related issues.

The absolute safest method of correcting the problem of dangerous aluminum wiring is to replace it with copper - but this is expensive and in some cases impossible to do without cutting into walls and ceilings

COPALUM connectors offer a good method (approved by the CPSC) for correcting problems associated with aluminum wiring. Using this method, T-Bar technicians cold weld specially designed COPLUM connectors at every connection and splice, effectively taking out the "danger zones."

Only Tyco Approved and Certified contractors, such as those employed with T-Bar electric, may install these connectors.

This method is the only other method recommended by the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
